Among them are Badie and El-Beltagy… An Egyptian court transfers the papers of 8 Brotherhood leaders to the Mufti

Yesterday, Monday, the State Security Criminal Court in Egypt decided to refer the papers of the Muslim Brotherhood’s guide in Egypt, Muhammad Badie, and 7 of the group’s leaders to the Grand Mufti of the Republic, to express his legal opinion on the death sentence, to convict them in a case known as the “platform events” that date back to 2013.

The court set a session on September 20 to pronounce the case in which 79 accused leaders of the Brotherhood are being tried.

Among the most prominent referrals to the Mufti, in addition to the General Guide of the Brotherhood, are Mahmoud Ezzat, the acting guide, Muhammad al-Beltagy, Amr Zaki, Osama Yassin, and Safwat Hegazy.

The leader of the Islamic Group, Asim Abdel-Majid, and the Salafist preacher, Mohamed Abdel-Maqsoud, who are being tried in absentia in this case, were also referred.

On July 27, 2013, clashes broke out in the vicinity of the monument in Nasr City – east of Cairo – close to the sit- in in Rabaa Al-Adawiya Square – which is the largest sit-in for supporters of the late President Mohamed Morsi – between protesters and police forces – known as the events of the platform – which led to the killing of 80 people. and injuring more than 300 others.
