Watch- Real Madrid defeats Celta Vigo and maintains its hopes of catching up with leaders Barcelona

|

Real Madrid defeated Celta Vigo 2-0, in the 30th round of the Spanish Football League championship, on Saturday evening, to maintain second place in the standings table behind leaders Barcelona.

Marco Asensio scored the first goal for Real in the 42nd minute, with a powerful shot inside the penalty area, after an elaborate pass from Brazilian Vinicius Junior.

In the second half, Brazilian defender Eder Militao added the second goal in the 48th minute with a perfect header after a corner kick by Asensio.

Real Madrid raised its score to 65 points in second place, temporarily reducing the difference with Barcelona to 8 points before the Catalan team's match tomorrow, Sunday, with Atletico Madrid at the top of the round confrontations.

This victory was of great importance to Real Madrid, as losing it to Celta, with Atletico Madrid's victory over Barcelona tomorrow, would mean the royal's decline to third place in the ranking table, and it also preserved the royal's hopes of catching up with the top spot.

The royal club is focusing its efforts on the European Champions League and King's Cup competitions, with its chance of preserving the La Liga title diminishing.

Real reached the semi-finals of the Champions League by renewing its 2-0 victory over Chelsea at the English club's stadium last Tuesday, as happened in the first leg.

The European champion set a final square date with Manchester City in a replay of last season's semi-finals, and he also faces Osasuna in the King's Cup final.
