The Communication and Information Department of the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced – in a statement – that a second meeting of the Qatari-Bahraini Follow-up Committee took place at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council in Riyadh, and led to a decision to restore diplomatic relations between the two countries, in accordance with the principles of the United Nations Charter and the provisions of the Vienna Treaty on Diplomatic Relations. .
The two sides affirmed that this step comes out of a mutual desire to develop bilateral relations and enhance Gulf integration and unity, in accordance with the purposes of the Statute of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf.
They also affirmed that the step also comes in respect of the principles of equality between states, national sovereignty and independence, territorial integrity, and good neighborliness.
