April 18 (APP): Federal Minister for Climate Change, Senator Sherry Rehman, has said that a faster national, regional and international response is needed to deal with the challenge of climate change. Sherry Rehman said that the Shanghai Cooperation Organization should play its role at the regional level in achieving the common goals of environmental sustainability. He expressed these views while addressing the fourth ministerial meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

In her address, Sherry Rehman drew attention to the steps taken by the Shanghai Cooperation Organization to combat climate change in Pakistan and said that climate change is the existential challenge of this century, Pakistan's share of less than 1 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions. Despite this, Pakistan is among the top 10 countries most affected by climate change.

Sherry Rehman said that we are standing in the first line of countries affected by climate change, we are facing unbearable heat wave, floods, melting of glaciers and other environmental effects. He said last year's floods affected 32 million people and caused more than $30 billion in economic losses. He said that the environmental agenda is the first priority of the government of Pakistan, our policy is in accordance with the goals of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the commitments made in the Paris Agreement, we are active in dealing with the effects of climate change and are taking several steps in this regard. .

Sherry Rehman said that we are taking National Hazardous Waste Management Policy, Green Pakistan, National Clean Air Policy, Living India and other initiatives at the provincial and federal level. He said that a faster national, regional and international response is needed to deal with the challenge of climate change, climate change knows no borders, we must act now to guarantee a sustainable future for future generations. .

Sherry Rehman said that the Shanghai Cooperation Organization should play its role at the regional level in achieving the common goals of environmental sustainability, calling on the SCO to establish a technical working group, exchange capacity and knowledge, and work on a regional mechanism for regional environmental financing.
