Xinhua News Agency, United Nations, November 29th Geng Shuang, China's deputy permanent representative to the United Nations, made a speech at the Security Council's open meeting on Syria on the 29th, calling for the resolute maintenance of Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Geng Shuang said that the security situation in Syria has been turbulent for some time. Turkey launched air strikes on Syria and announced that it will take ground military action against Syria. Israeli airstrikes in Syria have also continued. These actions have seriously violated Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and may lead to the escalation and spread of the conflict in Syria. China expresses serious concern about this. Foreign military intervention is one of the important reasons why the Syrian crisis is complicated and protracted. China calls on Turkey and Israel to immediately stop cross-border attacks, avoid any actions that may lead to escalation of the situation, and insist on resolving relevant issues through dialogue and consultation. The illegal presence of foreign troops in Syria must also end.
Geng Shuang said that the international community should treat all terrorist organizations listed by the Security Council in Syria without discrimination, completely cut off their sources of weapons, personnel and funds, and stop condoning, shielding or politically exploiting terrorist forces. He said that cross-border rescue is a temporary arrangement made under special circumstances, and the transition to cross-line rescue needs to be accelerated. The international community should take the strength to promote cross-border rescue and cross-line rescue, and strive to allow all people in Syria to obtain humanitarian resources without distinction.
Geng Shuang called for the continued advancement of the "Syrian-led and Syrian-owned" political process, and called on relevant countries to immediately lift all unilateral sanctions not authorized by the Security Council.
