Xinhua News Agency, Vientiane, November 23 (Reporter Zhang Jianhua) The launch ceremony of China's food aid project to Laos in cooperation with the United Nations World Food Program through the Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund was held on the 22nd in Vientiane, the capital of Laos.
As the first project of the Global Development Initiative in Laos, China will donate 930 tons of rice and 120 tons of canned fish to the World Food Program and the National School Meals Program of the Ministry of Education and Sports of Laos. Provided school meals for 10,000 students, helping Laos to develop basic education and ensure children's nutrition.
Counselor Xiang Fangqiang, Chief Mission Officer of the Chinese Embassy in Laos, said in his speech that the global development initiative proposed by Chinese leaders focuses on deepening international development cooperation and is committed to solving the most pressing problems facing developing countries. It is an open and inclusive global public product. China will continue to support Laos' sustainable development and people's livelihood together with the United Nations and other multilateral institutions, and contribute to the cause of global development cooperation.
In their speeches, Minister of Education and Sports of Laos Pu Simmarafong and World Food Program Representative in Laos Jean Delbar spoke highly of China's global development initiative and thanked the Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund for its contribution to Laos' education and poverty reduction. and look forward to continuing to receive support from China under the framework of the Global Development Initiative, combined with the professional capabilities of UN agencies, to jointly make efforts for the development of basic livelihood undertakings such as poverty reduction and education in Laos.
