Yonhap News Agency, Seoul, November 25th. The general strike of the freight union "Cargo Joint Headquarters" (hereinafter referred to as the Cargo Joint) under the National Federation of Democratic Labor Unions entered the second day on the 25th. With the possibility of imminent paralysis of freight logistics, the government is considering ordering the relevant industries to start work.

According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, as of 5:00 p.m. that day, more than 6,700 cargo union members from all over the country participated in the rally, accounting for about 30% of the total number of trade union members. However, the goods association said that almost all members participated in the strike, and some employees who were not members of the union also participated in the strike. Affected by the strike, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the same day, the container throughput of various ports dropped to 28% of normal days, to 10,451 TEUs.

According to the Ministry of Land and Resources, as of now, the associations involved in automobile, steel, cement and other related businesses have not received any reports of refusal to transport goods, and there have been no losses caused by strikes. However, cement, concrete mixer trucks, construction and other industries that mainly rely on land transportation have shown signs of imminent paralysis. According to the Korea Cement Association, only 2 tons of cement were shipped that day, far less than the average daily output of 200,000 tons, resulting in a sales loss of 18 billion won (about 97 million yuan). People in the concrete mixer truck industry predict that there will be shutdowns across the country starting on the 29th.

Faced with the risk of further expansion of industrial losses, the government is considering ordering relevant industries to start work. President Yoon Seok-yue said on the 24th that if the refusal to transport goods continues, the government will have to consider various countermeasures such as issuing an order to start work. Yu Mingzhao, the second official (deputy minister) of the Ministry of Land and Resources, said that the government is considering issuing a start-to-work order from a technical and practical level, and comprehensively checking whether the general strike will have a serious negative impact on the national economy.

The "Cargo Vehicle Transport Business Law" stipulates that if the freight owners or practitioners collectively refuse to carry goods without reasonable reasons and cause serious problems, the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism may issue an order to start work. If they refuse, they will be sentenced to a fixed-term imprisonment of less than 3 years or 30 million yuan Fines below Korean won. (Finish)
