On November 25, the 2022 China-Japan-Korea Famous Journalists Dialogue hosted by the People’s Daily was held in Beijing in a combination of online and offline. Representatives of the mainstream media in China, Japan and South Korea conducted in-depth and heated discussions on how to consolidate the foundation of people-to-people bonds and build a bridge of cultural commonality around the theme.
Enrich the connotation of cooperation and help mutual benefit and win-win
People's Daily Editor-in-Chief Yu Shaoliang
There is a saying in China that "a house is bought with a hundred gold, and a neighbor is bought with a thousand gold", which explains the truth that "a good neighbor is not exchanged for gold". China, Japan, and South Korea are close neighbors separated by a strip of water. They are geographically close, culturally connected, and economically integrated. They share extensive common interests and have a solid foundation for cooperation. President Xi Jinping emphasized: "We must seize historical opportunities, continuously expand cooperation areas, innovate cooperation models, enrich the connotation of the trilateral partnership, give play to the role of China-Japan-ROK cooperation in promoting East Asian cooperation, and make due contributions to the construction of an East Asian community." It has pointed out the direction and cleared the path for the cooperation among China, Japan and South Korea.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and South Korea, the 50th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between China and Japan, and the 23rd anniversary of the launch of China-Japan-ROK cooperation. At present, a century of changes and a century of epidemics are intertwined, and the world has entered a new period of turmoil and change. We live in the same global village, facing various risks and challenges, we should help each other in the same boat. The theme of this dialogue is "Fulfilling Media Responsibilities, Helping People-to-People Connect", and it is to explore how to enrich the connotation of the cooperation between the mainstream media of China, Japan and South Korea, and better provide assistance for the mutual benefit and win-win situation of China, Japan and South Korea.
We should report comprehensively and be facilitators of public communication. The media is not only an important platform for people-to-people and cultural exchanges, but also an important channel for the integration and mutual learning of human civilizations, and an important carrier for promoting peace and friendship. We must actively fulfill the responsibilities and missions of the media, and use true, objective, and fair reports to enhance the friendly cognition and emotional identity among the people of China, Japan, and South Korea. The public should be encouraged to build consensus through dialogue and consultation, handle differences with a spirit of mutual understanding and accommodation, promote common development with a win-win attitude, and solve practical problems with a future-oriented perspective.
We need to enhance exchanges and be supporters of youth growth. Youth is the basis of public opinion for the long-term development of China-Japan-ROK relations. President Xi Jinping pointed out: "The friendship between the two countries lies in the friendship between the people. The key to the friendship between the people lies in the communication between the youth." The media should pay close attention to the growth of young people in China, Japan and South Korea, identify topics, expand channels, and explore the use of younger narrative methods , launching news products that are popular among young people in China, Japan and South Korea. It is necessary to encourage, support and guide young people to uphold a global vision and an open and inclusive spirit, learn from each other, enhance friendship and make progress together.
We need to strengthen cooperation and be the guardians of cultural identity. Culture and the arts have power beyond language and national borders. We need to rely on cultural resources to drive more exchanges and cooperation, hold dialogue meetings, joint interviews and other activities, support the shooting of short videos showing the friendly exchanges between China, Japan and South Korea, and conduct exchanges on topics such as language, tea ceremony, music, film and television, food, and e-sports , to better enhance emotional identity with the cultural identity of the people of China, Japan, and South Korea.
The Communist Party of China recently held the 20th National Congress, planning the goals, tasks and major policies for the development of the party and the country in the next five years or even longer. The Chinese people are embarking on a new journey of building a modern socialist country in an all-round way. On the new journey, as an all-media phalanx with more than 10 kinds of media such as newspapers and periodicals and micro-screens, and a comprehensive coverage of more than 1.3 billion users, People's Daily is willing to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation with mainstream media counterparts in Japan and South Korea to tell good stories together , develop business together, and make unremitting efforts to improve the common well-being of the people of China, Japan and South Korea.
Make a strong voice for cooperation and promote friendly exchanges
Fang Jiangshan, deputy editor-in-chief of People's Daily
This year coincides with the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and South Korea and the 50th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between China and Japan. Standing at a new starting point, how can the cooperation among China, Japan and South Korea be upgraded to a new level? President Xi Jinping met with South Korean leaders while attending the 17th G20 Leaders’ Summit in Indonesia, and attended the APEC Leaders’ Informal Meeting in Thailand The important talks and important consensus reached during the meeting with Japanese leaders provided important guidance and pointed out the right direction for continuing to deepen the cooperation among China, Japan and South Korea under the current situation.
After 3 years, the 5th China-Japan-Korea Famous Journalists Dialogue kicked off today. The unforgettable experience of fighting against the new crown pneumonia epidemic in the past three years has given us a deeper understanding of the meaning of "the mountains and rivers are different, the wind and the moon are in the same sky", and we can feel more personally the friendship of "the green mountains are the same as the clouds and rain, and the bright moon has never been two towns". More clearly understand the significance of adhering to the spirit of helping each other, being kind to neighbors, and being neighbors as companions. Today's dialogue will achieve a lot of consensus.
We Chinese, Japanese and Korean media people should have broad vision and ambitious goals. We must actively fulfill our media responsibilities, use our unique communication strength and trust foundation, share more joy and difficulties with the greatest goodwill and patience, and create a public opinion atmosphere of long-term peace, friendship and cooperation among the three countries. With real and vivid cooperation stories, the voice of friendship and cooperation between China, Japan and South Korea will be sent out, and the people-to-people bonds between the three countries will be helped.
We must continue to consolidate the communication platform and expand the "media circle of friends". It is necessary to continue to hold the China-Japan-Korea famous journalists’ dialogue meeting, and strive to identify the common points of ideological understanding, the resonance points of emotional exchanges, and the intersection points of interest relations, and consolidate the existing achievements such as news exchange and cooperation in publishing. Cultivate growth points for innovative cooperation in fields such as new media technology.
We must continue to fulfill our media responsibilities and revitalize the "East Asian Cultural Circle". We Chinese, Japanese and Korean media people should tighten the bond of cultural understanding, promote the formation of a sense of friendship among the people, and revitalize the common "East Asian cultural circle." It is necessary to innovate the form of reporting, and further amplify the efforts of the three countries to jointly promote the development of the "Cultural Capital of East Asia" project, enhance cultural heritage protection and cooperation, expand cultural content industry cooperation, and cultural and artistic exchanges between them.
We must continue to help people-to-people bonds and create a "regional development circle". The economies of China, Japan, and South Korea are highly complementary and deeply integrated. "I am in you, and you are in me", and have become each other's important development partners. After the "Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement" (RCEP) came into effect at the beginning of this year, the three countries were included in the world's largest free trade zone for the first time. The economic ties between each other have been strengthened, and the industrial chain and value chain have been deeply integrated, which will inject new vitality into regional economic integration. , to help the common development of the region. We Chinese, Japanese, and Korean media people must continue to gather the strength of cultural civilization to overcome common challenges, and jointly oppose the politicization of economic cooperation and pan-security, so that the economic integration of China, Japan, and South Korea will become a solid bond for common development.
Let us be good ambassadors of people-to-people bonds between China, Japan and South Korea, and work hand in hand to make a stronger voice in the new era of friendly cooperation between China, Japan and South Korea, and jointly promote the bright future of friendly exchanges between China, Japan and South Korea.
Enhance political mutual trust and expand practical cooperation
Deng Wei, Counselor of the Department of Asian Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs
China, Japan and South Korea live next to each other, have a common people-to-people and cultural connection, share extensive common interests, and are each other's important cooperative partners. Since its launch in 1999, China-Japan-ROK cooperation has continued to deepen and has become an important platform for promoting the development of the three countries and maintaining peace and prosperity in Northeast Asia.
The total economic volume of China, Japan and South Korea accounts for nearly a quarter of the world. The Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (RCEP) that the three countries participated in promoting has become an important engine leading the process of regional integration and promoting world economic growth. The three countries have actively participated in the East Asia Cooperation Leaders' Meetings, the G20 Leaders' Summit and the APEC Leaders' Informal Meeting, making positive voices for promoting regional and global peace, stability and development.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and South Korea and the 50th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between China and Japan. Faced with the profound and complex changes in the current international situation, China, Japan and South Korea, standing at a new starting point, should further enhance political mutual trust, expand practical cooperation, and inject more positive energy into regional tranquility, economic recovery, and national friendship.
The relationship between countries lies in the mutual affinity between the people, and the friendship between the people lies in the mutual understanding of the hearts. Media exchanges and cooperation are an important part of the people-to-people and cultural cooperation among the three countries. Over the years, media reporters from the three countries have not only deepened mutual understanding and understanding, but also played an indispensable and positive role in publicizing cooperation among the three countries and promoting people-to-people and cultural exchanges through participating in forum exchanges and joint interviews. The China-Japan-Korea Famous Journalists Dialogue has become a signature project of media exchanges and cooperation among the three countries. Its representativeness and influence have been continuously demonstrated, adding "sincerity" and "substantial meaning" to China-Japan-Korea media exchanges and cooperation.
With the theme of "Fulfilling Media Responsibilities and Helping People-to-People Bond", the dialogue will "invigorate" and "invigorate" media cooperation in China, Japan and South Korea. The "Ten-Year Outlook for China-Japan-ROK Cooperation" proposes to continue to enhance mutual understanding and trust between the people of the three countries, and to lay a stable, healthy and friendly social foundation for the cooperation among the three countries. This is the wish of the people of the three countries and the hard work of friends from the media of the three countries. It is hoped that the media of the three countries will further strengthen exchanges and cooperation, tell good stories of friendly cooperation among the three countries, spread positive energy in the region, promote oriental cultural concepts of inclusiveness and coexistence, seek common ground while reserving differences, each beautify itself, and the beauty of beauty should be shared, and strive to be a promoter of humanities exchanges and a guardian of fairness and justice contributors and facilitators of regional and global development.
Exchange experiences and insights, explore ways of development
Miyata Yuki, executive director and editor-in-chief of Japan's "Asahi Shimbun"
People-to-people exchanges will bring together the power to overcome obstacles and integrate each other between countries. This dialogue will focus on "Fulfilling Media Responsibilities and Helping People-to-People Bonding", re-examining the power and role of media in promoting people-to-people bonds. This theme is set in line with the requirements of the times.
The national conditions of countries in the world are different, but the expectations of the people of all countries on the responsibility and role of the media are the same. The media of various countries should continue to improve the professional standards of publishing reliable information, provide audiences with in-depth analysis and insights, and help people better understand the world.
At the same time, we are also facing common challenges. The development of new media such as social networks has made audiences "stay away from newspapers" and "stay away from TV" more and more in many countries and regions. As people have more sources of information and continue to actively disseminate information, society's demands on us have become higher and more diverse.
In order to give full play to the role of the media in connecting countries and connecting people, we must stand our ground and shoulder corresponding social responsibilities. For the media in Japan, China, and South Korea, the most urgent task is to strengthen self-development to adapt to the requirements of the new era and constantly meet new challenges in the process of exploration. Japan, China and South Korea are culturally connected, and this dialogue is a good opportunity for the media of the three countries to exchange their experiences and insights, and jointly explore ways of development.
Deepen friendship and mutual trust and inject vitality into the region
Li Xiaqing, Editor-in-Chief of JoongAng Ilbo, South Korea
It is of great significance that representatives of mainstream media from South Korea, China, and Japan gather together to stir up ideas and discuss media responsibilities in the post-epidemic era.
More than a month ago, the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China was successfully held. In the report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, General Secretary Xi Jinping quoted the old saying "All things grow together without harming each other, and Tao runs without conflict", which left a deep impression on people. Just as everything in the world develops together without harming each other, and operates according to its own laws without conflicting with each other, the development of the three countries of South Korea, China and Japan should also do the same.
Of course, the world is not what we want it to be. The global pandemic of the new crown pneumonia epidemic, regional conflicts, high inflation and violent exchange rate fluctuations have led to turmoil in the international situation. In the context of more complex global challenges and threats, the report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China proposed to adhere to the diplomatic policy of amity, sincerity, mutual benefit and inclusiveness, and friendship and partnership with neighbors, and to deepen friendship, mutual trust and integration of interests with neighboring countries. These claims are timely.
The more difficult times are, the more countries need to deepen friendship and mutual trust and realize the integration of interests. This dialogue will focus on the theme of "Fulfilling Media Responsibilities and Helping People-to-People Bond", which can also be understood from the same perspective. Mainstream media in various countries should carry out reporting work responsibly, serve as a bridge between people, and continue to inject vitality into the development of Northeast Asia.
Let us strengthen communication, enhance trust, and make continuous efforts in our respective fields of public opinion work.
Reduce misunderstanding and bias and tell a good story of cooperation
Ou Boqian, Secretary-General of the China-Japan-Korea Cooperation Secretariat
The highly developed communication technology has led to the rapid development of the network world in a short period of time, which has brought a profound impact on the real world in which human beings live.
On the one hand, technology endows information dissemination with low latency and interactivity, so that things that happen on the other side of the earth can be presented in front of our eyes in an instant, and it greatly facilitates cross-border trade, e-commerce, and people's basic necessities of life; On the one hand, the "massive" information in the online world, the characteristics of group polarization, and emotional expressions make it difficult for people to distinguish the authenticity of information.
Internet public opinion not only affects the public's mutual recognition, affects the government's policy choice tendency and social governance model, but also affects the narrative methods and position preferences of traditional media. The mainstream media should assume the social responsibility of the media, stand at the forefront of public opinion, strive to reduce misunderstanding and prejudice, and help people to connect. Guide public opinion with a rational and objective attitude, rather than succumbing to or even catering to online sentiment; use balanced and precise brushwork to tell the real world, rather than selective reporting.
Since the establishment of the China-Japan-Korea Cooperation Secretariat in 2011, it has always paid attention to the cooperation with the media of the three countries. Seminars, etc., to promote mutual understanding among the media. In the 7th China-Japan-Korea Journalist Exchange Event held in August this year, 12 journalists from the three countries discussed how to use the concept of "difficulty-solving reporting" to alleviate misunderstandings and reduce estrangement among the people of the three countries through rational and objective in-depth reporting. Find solutions to enhance mutual awareness and goodwill.
To write news is to tell a story. I hope to work with friends from the media of the three countries to tell the story of China-Japan-ROK cooperation, guide the people of their respective countries to rationally view the common culture of "harmony but difference" among the three countries, advocate "culture is for sharing, not for division", and draw closer The psychological distance between the people of the three countries has built a solid public opinion foundation for the cooperation among the three countries.
