Could it really be true that school is starting in … no, not going to say when just yet.
There’s still plenty of summer left and lots of activities to help enjoy the remainder of the season. (Just saying, Labor Day is fast approaching!)
Here’s what’s happening this week.
1. Genealogy Club at Wood Library
Learn how to conduct a basic search and use other helpful tools to find relatives during this genealogy program from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, at Wood Library, 134 N. Main St., Canandaigua. 2. Head to Canandaigua Lake for live music
Tim Braley will be in concert in the next Live @ Five Concert Series. Braley will perform from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, at Kershaw Park, 155 Lakeshore Drive, Canandaigua. This series of free concerts are held Wednesdays throughout the summer at the pavilion in the park. The event is sponsored by the Lakeshore Hospitality District, which includes Nolan’s on the Lake, COHO Pizza and Wine Bar, New York Kitchen, The Lake House on Canandaigua, Hotel Canandaigua and JP’s Tap Room. Bring blanket chairs, food and drinks.
3. Rockin’ Boots to perform in Canandaigua
Rockin’ Boots will at the town of Canandaigua’s Music in the Park on Aug. 14 at Richard P. Outhouse Memorial Park, 2550 Outhouse Road, Canandaigua. Food trucks will serve from 5:30 to 8 p.m.; music starts at 6:30 p.m. For more information, call 585-394-1120 or email info@townofcanandaigua.org.
4. Country star Sam Hunt hits CMAC stage
Sam Hunt will perform Thursday, Aug. 15, at Constellation Brands-Marvin Sands Performing Arts Center, 3355 Marvin Sands Drive. Doors open at 5 p.m. and performances begin at 6:30 p.m. The country vocalist’s hits include “Kinfolk,” “Breaking Up was Easy in the 90s,” “Hard to Forget” and “Body Like a Back Road,” among others. 5. Learn more about Victor history
Learn about the early settlers whose graves are in the Victor Village Cemetery during a Victor Farmington Library program set for 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 16. Meet in the parking lot behind Village Hall, 60 E. Main St., Victor. Victor Historian Babette Huber will share stories of early inhabitants while strolling among their final resting spots. 6. Spend the day with a comic artist in Canandaigua
A comic workshop with Rochester artist Jackie Davis is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 16 at Wood Library, 134 N. Main St., Canandaigua. The program is for teens. 7. Take a hike in Macedon
The Canandaigua Botanical Society and Genesee Land Trust are offering a guided walk at Ganargua Creek Meadow Preserve, 195 N. Hook Road, Macedon. The walk is planned for 10 a.m. Aug. 16. Genesee Land Trust Preserve Manager Will Macaluso will discuss the ongoing management of this Macedon preserve, and hikers will check out the new trail bridge, identify wildflowers and watch the dragonflies and butterflies. 8. Agriculture and a movie night in Canandaigua
The town of Canandaigua is hosting an agricultural festival and outdoor movie night at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 16 at Richard P. Outhouse Memorial Park, 2550 Outhouse Road, Canandaigua. Visitors will be able to see local agricultural vendors and displays and enjoy food trucks and bounce house. The movie “Kung Fu Panda 4” starts at dusk (8:15-ish p.m.). Bring blankets and chairs. 9. Tedeschi Trucks Band jams at CMAC
The Tedeschi Trucks Band returns Aug. 16 to Constellation Brands-Marvin Sands Performing Arts Center, 3355 Marvin Sands Drive. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and performances start at 7 p.m. The Grammy Award-winning 12-piece rock and soul band is led by husband and wife guitarists, Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi. 10. It’s party time for West Bloomfield Congregational Church
A community party is planned as part of a celebration of West Bloomfield Congregational Church’s 225th anniversary community party, which is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, on the church grounds, 9035 state Routes 5 and 20, West Bloomfield. The public is invited to attend and enjoy food booths, live music performances, games and activities, an apple pie contest, inflatables race and more, including a historical presentation by Sue Washburn of the West Bloomfield Historical Society. 11. Celebrate babies and parents-to-be in Canandaigua
A community baby shower is planned for 10 to 11:30 a.m. Aug. 17 at Wood Library, 134 N. Main St., Canandaigua. Healthy Families Ontario, Yates, and Seneca presents this annual event. Expectant parents will receive community resource information, a diaper bag to fill during the event, a chance to win raffle prizes, and a snack and beverages while having fun with other parents-to-be. 12. Donna the Buffalo comes to Naples
Donna the Buffalo will peform Aug. 17 at Inspire Moore Winery, 197 Main St., Naples, on Aug. 17. Doors open at 5 p.m., and performances start at 6 p.m. The winery will serve its own wood-fired pizza and wine, and local beers, cocktails and food trucks will be available. No outside food or drinks are permitted. Tickets are $30 at the door or $25 in advance at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/donna-the-buffalo-under-the-stars-tickets-873688244057. Children 8 and younger will be admitted free if accompanied by an adult.
13. Free dinner is served in Victor
A free community dinner is planned for 5 to 6:30 p.m. Aug. 17 at First Presbyterian Church of Victor, 70 E. Main St., Victor. The menu includes egg casserole. The dinner will be hosted by St. Patrick’s Church, and music will be performed by guitarist Doug Manzer. No reservations are required. Takeout is available by calling the church at 585-924-2289 during dinner time. The dinners are held the second, third and fourth Saturdays of the month.
14. It’s movie night in Baker Park in Canandaigua
“Lilo & Stitch” will be shown outside at 8 p.m. Aug. 17 at Baker Park in Canandaigua. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy the PG-rated movie on the big screen under the stars. Come early and explore Wood LIbrary’s Baker Park Storywalk. The free movie is presented in partnership with the City of Canandaigua and Kiwanis Club of Canandaigua.
