In November, Republican incumbent Marc Molinaro will be taking on Democrat Josh Riley in the race for the 19th Congressional District seat in New York.
In 2022, Molinaro held 51.1% of the vote to defeat Riley in the election.
Here’s what to know about the rematch on Nov. 5.
Marc Molinaro (R)
Molinaro, who was born in Yonkers, previously served on the Dutchess County Legislature, was a member of the New York State Assembly for the 103rd district in 2006 and Dutchess County Executive from 2011 until he was elected to Congress in 2023.
Issues:
-
In 2015, Molinaro established “ThinkDIFFERENTLY,” a program encouraging Dutchess County to break down barriers for residents with disabilities.
-
Molinaro is a proponent of increased border security, stating current border regulations are causing illegal drugs to enter the United States and impacting local communities.
Josh Riley (D)
Riley, an Endicott native and attorney, served as staff assistant to Congressman Maurice Hinchey and worked on raising the minimum wage as a fellow on Senator Ted Kennedy’s Labor & Pensions Committee staff. Riley also served as a Policy Analyst at the U.S. Department of Labor and as counsel in the Senate.
Issues:
-
Riley has called the current campaign finance system a “cesspool,” and worked on a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United as counsel in the Senate.
-
Riley has pledged to strengthen the middle class and “give working families a fair shot to get ahead.”
