GREEN BAY — Bay Beach Amusement Park received a $2.4 million grant from the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative to address environmental degradation and the loss of wildlife in the area, according to U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin.
The money will go toward constructing a wildlife viewing platform and a walking path along the shore. As a result, residents and visitors to Bay Beach will have more fishing posts, waterfront access, and wildlife education opportunities, according to the media release.
“The City of Green Bay is thrilled to accept these funds to jumpstart our long-planned efforts to improve our shoreline and provide enhanced access to the Bay, home to the largest freshwater estuary in the world,” Mayor Eric Genrich said in the release.
The Parks Committee will add the grant as an agenda item for discussion in its upcoming meeting next Wednesday, according to the Parks Department director Dan Ditscheit.
If approved by the committee and city council, Ditscheit anticipates construction to begin fall 2025.
All details surrounding the grant will be revealed at the Parks Committee’s 5 p.m. meeting next Wednesday.
