Boise State had to make other arrangements for running back Ashton Jeanty at Mountain West media days.
The Mountain West Conference is holding media days this week at the Circa Resort and Casino. Circa has a strict 21-and-over policy in all of its facilities. Jeanty is 20. He canât get in.
But that didnât stop Boise State from figuring out a way to make Jeanty available for interviews. While kicker Jonah Dalmas and defensive end Ahmed Hassanein do their media availabilities at Circa, Jeanty will hold events at the Bellagio and Golden Gate Hotel since neither of those properties have age restrictions to get in.
Dalmas and Hassanein were previously announced as Boise Stateâs media day attendees, presumably because the team was having to make accommodations to bring Jeanty and because both of them are of legal drinking and gambling age. And you can understand why Boise State wants its star running back available for preseason interviews. Heâs really, really good.
Jeanty is one of the best running backs in the country heading into the 2024 season. After rushing for 821 yards on just 156 carries as a freshman in 2022, Jeanty took over as the teamâs No. 1 back in 2023 and had 220 carries for 1,347 yards and 14 touchdowns. He also added 43 catches for 569 yards and five receiving TDs.
Jeanty and QB Malachi Nelson could be the best QB-RB combination in the Mountain West this season. Nelson, a former USC quarterback and five-star recruit, transferred to Boise State in the offseason. Like Jeanty, Nelson is also under the age of 21. If he was attending media days, he wouldnât be able to enter Circa either.
