In 1914, the poet Li Yongyue (1914-1971) was born.
In 1934, Busan Yeongdo Bridge was completed.
In 1937, the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea was moved from Zhenjiang, Jiangsu Province, China to Changsha, Hunan Province, China. The Provisional Government was a temporary government-in-exile established in Shanghai, China after the March First Movement broke out in South Korea in 1919. The March First Movement refers to a large-scale national liberation movement that broke out on the Korean Peninsula under Japanese colonial rule on March 1, 1919.
In 1945, 14 members of the provisional government, including Korean anti-Japanese independence activist Kim Koo, returned to Korea.
In 1946, the Communist Party of South Korea Workers' Party (referred to as the South Korea Labor Party) was established.
In 1988, former South Korean President Chun Doo-hwan apologized to the people for accepting bribes during his tenure and promised to donate all his property. After that, he and his wife left Seoul and lived in seclusion for two years at Baekdamsa Temple in Inje County, Gangwon-do.
In 1993, the poet Jin Guangjun (1914-1993) died.
In 1996, South Korean President Kim Young-sam held talks with Philippine President Fidel Ramos in Manila.
In 1998, Gyeongju discovered the site of a large-scale artificial lotus pond in the Unified Silla era known as the "Second Anapji".
In 2002, Lee Jong-hak (1927-2002), the first director of the Dokdo Museum, passed away.
In 2005, the South Korean National Assembly voted to pass a motion on suspending rice tariffs.
In 2010, North Korea fired more than 100 artillery shells at Yeonpyeong Island in the western waters of South Korea, killing 2 South Korean soldiers and 2 civilians, and injuring 16 soldiers and 10 civilians. Known in history as the "Bombarding of Yanping Island".
In 2016, South Korea and Japan signed the Military Intelligence Protection Agreement (GSOMIA). The two sides notified each other in writing, and the agreement came into effect immediately.
In 2017 and 2018, the Korean University Scholastic Ability Test (College Entrance Examination) was postponed for one week due to the Pohang earthquake.
In 2019, South Korean President Moon Jae-in held talks with Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at the Blue House. The two sides discussed plans to achieve peace on the Korean Peninsula and the region and strengthen friendly cooperation between the two countries.
Former President Chun Doo-hwan died in 2021 at the age of 90.
