Whisky Advocate, the world’s leading authority on whisky and spirits, has announced the Top 20 Whiskies list of 2024 with eight Kentucky spirits making the list.

Each year, the Whisky Advocate Buying Guide’s expert team samples an array of whiskies, encompassing rare, limited editions, and up-and-coming brands likely to hit store shelves nationwide. The 2024 Top 20 list starts with whiskies scoring 90 or above (“outstanding”) on a 100-point scale.

A crucial step in assessing these whiskies’ true worth is a blind tasting by the expert panel. Kentucky whiskies making the top 20 list include Bardstown Bourbon Co. Collaborative Series Amrut, Heaven Hill Grain to Glass (Distilled in 2017; 2024 Release,) Booker’s “Springfield Batch” (Batch 2024-01,) Wild Turkey 8 year old Jimmy Russell 70th Anniversary, Bernheim Original Barrel Proof (Batch A224,) Angel’s Envy Cask Strength Port Wine Barrel Finished (2023), Knob Creek Bourbon x Rye and 2XO The Kiawah Blend.

A Scottish-made whisky, Laphroaig Elements 2.0 Cask Strength took top prize. Judges said, “Laphroaig Distillery has used its Elements Series to explore how a whisky’s flavor can be influenced not at the finish, but at the start. This second release in the Elements series focuses on where the magic truly begins—the fermentation—dialing up the fermenting period to nearly five full days, twice its normal length.”
