Manchester United legend David Beckham found himself sharing the Royal Box at Wimbledon with classical singer Katherine Jenkins – a situation made a little awkward due to his refusal to apologise for criticising her OBE award back in 2018. The former England player expressed distaste when Jenkins was awarded an OBE, having received his own in 2003.
Beckham’s outrage stemmed from not receiving a more prestigious accolade, leading him to write a biting email about the Welsh songstress that eventually saw light.
When the scandal erupted, Jenkins admitted she was hurt due to Beckham’s words and his failure to apologise. Speaking to The Sun, she confessed: “You’re just minding your own business and you get caught up in this massive storm. You just think, ‘aw, I wasn’t doing anything’. To get caught up in that wasn’t pleasant.

“I don’t know why, again, that was aimed at me. I also don’t feel the need to defend this, by the way. I know what I’ve done and when I got the OBE it was given to me for music and for charity.”
Jenkins was given her OBE in 2018 at Buckingham Palace, recognising her contributions to music and significant charitable endeavours including performing for frontline troops.
The singer confirmed she didn’t reach out to Beckham after his comments, reports Wales Online.
She added: “It’s obviously disappointing. I’ve never heard anything from them about it. It doesn’t matter. Priorities are my kids, my family, my singing, my charities and that’s just white noise in the background.”
Attending All England Club on Monday with his mother Sandra, 75, was Beckham while Katherine was present with her filmmaker other-half Andrew Levitas, 46.
Gracing the esteemed Royal Box on this day was also the respected natural historian Sir David Attenborough, 98, accompanied by his daughter Susan Attenborough.
