The first results from the UK general election have started to come in, with Labour expected to win a historic landslide.

According to an exit poll, Sir Keir Starmer‘s party is forecast to win 410 seats, a majority of 170, following 14 years in opposition.

The Conservatives are predicted to be reduced to 131 seats, which would be its lowest number of MPs on record.

Millions of people voted on Thursday after prime minister Rishi Sunak‘s surprise decision to call a snap summer election.

Labour has been out of power since 2010, when Gordon Brown was replaced in Number 10 by David Cameron, and had lost four successive general elections.
