An Amarillo resident was killed and another hospitalized in a crash involving a vehicle and motorcycle near the city in Randall County on Thursday night.
At about 8:06 p.m. Thursday, July 4, a 2018 GMC Sierra was traveling south on South Western, while a 1978 Kawasaki KZ1000 was traveling west on West McCormick, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).
DPS said the driver of the GMC, identified as Daniel Hamm, 63, of Ramona, Oklahoma, failed to yield the right of way at the stop intersection and traveled into the path of the motorcycle. The bike then struck the left rear quarter of the pickup.
The driver of the motorcyle, identified as Jimmy Snider, 61, of Amarillo, was pronounced dead at the scene by Randall County Justice of the Peace Tracy Byrd. A passenger, Jean Snider, 56 of Amarillo, was taken to Amarillo Northwest Texas Hospital with serious injuries, where she was in critical condition at the time of the DPS news release. Both motorcyle occupants were wearing their helmets at the time of the crash.
The driver of the pickup was not injured.
The posted speed limit was 55 mph, and road conditions were dry and clear. The crash remains under investigation.
