A 49-year-old Wichita man remained in Finney County Jail on Saturday after armed robberies of a Garden City jewelry story and another nearly a month later of a restaurant occupied with customers, police said.
Alberto Rincon was arrested Thursday after he fled from police and then ran from the vehicle just east of Garden City, the Garden City Police Department said in a news release, adding he had a gun and drugs on him.
Rincon was being sought in connection to two armed robberies:
On May 4 at Joyeria America jewelry store, a man held an employee at gunpoint and stole property before taking off.
And on July 1, a man held Tacos El Tapatio employees and customers at “gunpoint before leaving with an undisclosed amount of money,” Garden City police said.
“Through an investigation, Rincon was identified as the suspect responsible for both robberies,” according to the Garden City police.
Rincon was arrested on suspicion of two counts of aggravated robbery and one count of aggravated assault on an officer, aggravated battery, criminal possession of a firearm by a felon, fleeing and eluding, reckless driving and drug related charges.
Alberto Rincon has convictions in the 1990s in Finney County for aggravated battery, criminal discharge of a gun at an occupied building or vehicle, fleeing or attempt to elude and driving with a suspended license, according to Kansas Department of Corrections records.
