Two people were killed and 17 others were injured in a shooting at a block party in Detroit early Sunday morning.

Detroit police reported that a shooter opened fire at 2:25 a.m at a block party on the city’s east side, according to NBC affiliate WDIV. The Michigan State Police also confirmed two fatalities in a statement posted to X on Sunday.

“The Michigan State Police is assisting the Detroit Police Department on a shooting investigation through our partnership on the Homicide Task Force,” state police said.

There is currently no suspect in custody, according to state police. No additional details regarding a potential suspect’s identity were released.

The Detroit Police Department said in a statement Sunday afternoon that investigators and forensic crews are “analyzing all available evidence.” Officials are expected to hold a press conference on Monday.

“DPD will be implementing a comprehensive new strategy regarding block parties and will provide full details tomorrow at a briefing with the chief and the mayor,” police said.
