Water line breaks in Petersburg neighborhood; low pressure expected throughout town

PETERSBURG − Public-works crews are working to restore service after a water line broke Sunday afternoon.

A statement from the city did not give a cause for the break in the 800 block of Arlington Street near Halifax Street and Baylor’s Lane. No timetable was given for repairs to be completed, but some residents in the immediate area are without water and others throughout the city could be experiencing low pressure.

The line that broke gets water directly from Petersburg’s main supply line, city spokesperson Joanne Williams said in a statement.

“Residents are asked to conserve water until repairs are completed,” Williams said.

Crews are re-routing water feeds so that most of the water tanks around town will stay full.

Williams said work will continue on the 12” line until repairs are finished and service is restored.

Updates on the work are available on the city website, through its social-media channels and on the Petersburg Police app.
