Carmichael pedestrian dies after vehicle collision near Walmart in Sacramento County, CHP says

A 65-year-old Carmichael pedestrian died Tuesday after a vehicle collision in Sacramento County, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A 30-year-old woman was driving north on Elk Grove Florin Road, approaching the intersection at Gerber Road in Sacramento County’s Vineyard neighborhood, when the collision happened, the CHP’s South Sacramento office said in a news release.

The man was standing in lanes of traffic near a Walmart Supercenter as the woman approached a green light, officers said. Investigators were alerted of the incident about 10:20 p.m., according to the news release.

The man died at the scene, authorities said.

His identity will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office once family have been notified.

The motorist, driving a 2021 Toyota SUV, was taken to a hospital for “precautionary measures,” the news release said.

It’s unclear why the pedestrian was standing in traffic lanes. The incident is under investigation.
