83-year-old man arrested Thursday in shooting death of his wife at couple’s Fayetteville home

An 83-year-old man was arrested Thursday in the fatal shooting of his wife at the couple’s home off Rosehill Road, police said.

Leslie David Brewer is charged with first-degree murder in the killing of Betsy Craven Brewer, 83, a news release said.

The Fayetteville Police Department said officers responded at 10 a.m. Thursday to reports of a shooting in the 600 block of Pleasant Loop.

Officers found Betsy Brewer dead from a gunshot wound, and Leslie Brewer was arrested at the scene, police said.

Brewer is being held in the Cumberland County jail without bail.

According to property records, he has owned the home on Pleasant Loop since 2007.
