July 12, 1924 (The Adrian Daily Telegram did not publish a July 13 edition of the newspaper in 1924): Passenger and freight service by the Toledo & Western between the subway and the downtown station on West Maumee street is to be discontinued one week from today, July 19, it was announced by officers of the interurban line today. Since the Adrian Street Railway suspended city car service June 28, the freight and passenger cars of the Toledo & Western have continued to use the city tracks on Maumee street and the schedule has not been distributed by the discontinuance of the city car operation. At the time the Adrian company abandoned its schedules, it was announced that the Toledo & Western probably would continue to operate its cars as usual through the month of July. A. Swartz, general manager of the Toledo & Western today said that the interurban line is prepared to handle its Adrian business from the subway station and that his company did not feel that the volume of business would warrant the purchase of the downtown tracks from the Adrian Street Railway. The schedule, Mr. Swartz said, will remain unchanged and after July 19, cars will continue to leave the subway at the same hours as at present.
Miss Eleanor Leader of Ogden won the state championship in the second-year garment work of the boysâ and girlsâ club and Miss Grace Aldrich of Adrian was elected president of the state association of county champions at the annual boysâ and girlsâ week at Michigan Agricultural College this week. Miss Amy Lash of Cadmus won third place in the first-year garment division. The garment work was the only department in which there was competition at Lansing this year. By virtue of her election to the presidency of the county champions, Miss Aldrich was toastmistress at the annual banquet given by the boys and girls by the state board of agriculture Thursday evening.
