Coronation Street’s Sue Cleaver supported and praised as she sends important health message

Coronation Street star Sue Cleaver has been supported by fans as she took to social media with an important health message. The actress took to her Instagram platform to share how she’d attended a breast cancer screening.

Sue, who is famed for playing Eileen Grimshaw in the ITV soap, shared pictures of the mammogram process as she tried to encourage others to get booked in for their check-ups.

Alongside the photos, the soap star said: “Mammogram day for me. It’s so important to get your boobs checked out. Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK, please don’t put off a mammogram & you can also check your books yourself. Predict…. Prevent …. Protect.”

Sue was flooded with support from her co-stars as Sally Carman-Duttine (Abi Webster), Daniel Brocklebank (Billy Mayhew), Kate Ford (Tracy Barlow) and Sally Dynevor (Sally Metcalfe) all liked the update.

Meanwhile, her fans and followers were quick to respond. @m13let said: “Great for sharing this, I had a routine mammogram and an anomaly was found. The NHS were amazing and had tests within a week. All normal. Go get checked ladies (and men!).” @grange.judith wrote: “Well done you for highlighting this AND for posting such personal pictures…. I really admire you for that.”

@debyegaskin shared: “I had one done a few months back it is a bit scary the fear is real but cried like a baby when it came back clear xx Sending love and light to you.” @janined62 replied: “Thanks for making such a public show of how important this is! I hope you & your bobbies are well.” @leanneruth1 added: “Fantastic. Well done for sharing. Not a nice experience but it is over a done quicker and saves so many lives xxx.”

Sue became a patron for Prevent Breast Cancer earlier this year. Sue’s role sees her support the charity on an ongoing basis and she joined a host of fellow patrons including Corrie co-star Sally, actress Victoria Ekanoye and newsreader and host of The Krypton Factor Gordon Burns.

Sue said of becoming the charity’s patron at the time: “Breast cancer affects so many of us in different ways. I’ve known about Prevent Breast Cancer through Sally Dynevor for many years and always admired the work the charity does to find out more about the prediction and prevention of breast cancer through research.

“I’ve been struck by just how many women I personally know who have experienced breast cancer – many of them far younger than you would expect – and I wanted to do more to help raise awareness of the many issues that can affect our risk of developing cancer.”

She added: “I’m proud to be joining Prevent Breast Cancer as a patron and I’m really excited about helping share the charity’s message with more people!”
