Widespread late-day downpours

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – Scattered storms develop in the early afternoon and increase in coverage and intensity by the evening. Widespread downpours expected around I-75 during the evening commute. The rain drifts out into the Gulf of Mexico after sunset.

Since the rain doesn’t start until later in the day, it get hot quickly. Highs reach the low-mid 90s, and it’ll feel like 102-109 when you add in the humidity.

It’s a similar storm pattern tomorrow with most of the rain happening in the late afternoon and pushing to the west in the evening. Expect another hot day with highs in the low-mid 90s.

With storms pushing toward the Gulf of Mexico each afternoon, areas along and west of I-75 may pick up 1-2 inches of rain over the next five days.

The coverage of rain decreases slightly Friday and Saturday. There will still be scattered storms, but they won’t be quite as widespread in the afternoon and evening.

The rain chance ramps back up for next week, and we could see some showers develop earlier in the day as well. The earlier rain keeps highs a few degrees cooler.
