Don’t lose your head when you need to find one.
Whether it’s called a head, the loo, or perhaps the powder room, it seems that one can never find a bathroom when you need it in New York City. Earlier this year, the city created a Google Maps layer showing public restrooms by location – parks, libraries, privately owned public spaces, public plazas, and at transit locations such as subway stations (for the latter, there’s also a note if the bathroom is located outside of the fare gates and thus open to the wider public.)
As well, Teddy Siegel, who created the original map of NYC bathrooms, uses her Instagram account @got2gonyc to share door codes to such places as well as tips to finding a clean, accessible restroom.
But if your smart device is low on battery, or if you don’t have one, fear not: There’s a physical map available for Manhattan locations.
