Newark man sentenced for giving drugs to teens in exchange for sexual favors

A Newark, N.J. man has been sentenced to 10 years in state prison for providing narcotics to two teenagers “in exchange for sexual favors,” prosecutors said Friday.

Nafis Wiggins, 26, pleaded guilty in March to two counts of second-degree luring and one count of third-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute.

According to investigators, Wiggins provided unspecified drugs to two young victims, ages 14 and 15, several times between Aug. 1 and Sept. 28, 2023 after “recruiting and luring the minors via text message.”

Wiggins, who was 25 at the time, allegedly met the two teens at different locations in Chatham Township and Chatham Borough and drove them “to more secluded areas to engage in drug use and sexual activity,” Morris County Prosecutor Robert Carroll said in a news release.

He was arrested on Dec. 19, 2023, at Cougar Field in Chatham Township, where he was found in possession of a controlled substance.

On Thursday, Judge Claudia R. Jones sentenced him to 10 years in state prison.

Wiggins will also be required to register as a sex offender and will be subject to parole supervision for life, which means he’ll be required to follow the rules and conditions set forth by his parole officer for a minimum of 15 years after his release.
