JULIAN, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — The National Weather Service reported a strong thunderstorm with heavy rain and hail in the Julian area Sunday afternoon.
Around 1:30 p.m., weather officials issued a severe thunderstorm warning for some mountain areas in San Diego County, specifically the areas of Warner Springs, Oak Grove, Santa Ysabel, Lake Henshaw, Palomar Mountain and the La Jolla Indian Reservation.

According to the weather service, a cluster of strong to severe thunderstorms were located over state highway 79 between Warner Springs and Oak Grove around that time period. Winds of up to 60 mph were expected.
Shortly after 2 p.m., hail was reported in downtown Julian with the town’s web camera capturing the moment. Another web camera near Julian, showed heavy rain and thunderstorms sweeping the region. The weather service referred to the event as a “monsoonal.’
More rain is expected in the county’s mountain area through Sunday evening.
