Palmer Candy Company, which supplies a variety of snacks and candy to stores around the country, including Walmart and Target, issued a recall of a bunch of their products due to a risk of salmonella.
The company announced the recall earlier this year in May, but as of Aug. 6, the recall was reclassified as Class I by the FDA, which is the highest risk level, as reported by Consumer Affairs.
The FDA defines a Class I recall as “a situation in which there is a reasonable probability that the use of or exposure to a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death.”
As of writing, no illnesses have been reported yet in connection with the recalled products.
Salmonella is a bacterial disease that can cause a range of symptoms, though most often stomach issues like vomiting, pain and diarrhea, as well as a fever and headache, according to the Cleveland Clinic.
Palmer Candy Company recalled its âWhite Coated Confectionary Itemsâ after receiving word from its liquid coating supplier that the products where potentially contaminated by salmonella as the result of a potential contamination of one of the ingredients.
Customers were directed to return any recalled products to the place of purchase for a full refund, with the Palmer Candy Company’s contact number, 1-800-831-0828, included for any questions or concerns.
The recalled products include the Caramel Swirl Pretzels, Classic Yogurt Pretzels, Cookies & Cream Yummy Chow, Enrobed Pretzel Rods, Favorite Day Bakery White Fudge Mini Cookies, Frosted Munchy Medley Bowl, Frosted Patriot Frosted Pretzels, Frosted Pretzels, Munchy Medley, Patriotic Munchy Medley Bowl, Patriotic Pretzels, Patriotic Red, White & Blue Pretzel Twists and Patriotic Snack Mix.
The Patriotic White Fudge Cookies, Peanut Butter Snack Mix, Snackin’ With The Crew! Mizzou Munchy Medley, Star Snacks Chow Down, Strawberry Yogurt Coated Pretzels, Sweet Smiles Yogurt Covered Pretzels, Yogurt Pretzel and Zebra Fudge Cookies were also included in the recall, with the specific sizes and best-by dates provided in the official FDA recall.
Palmer Candy Company’s recalled items were distributed across the U.S. at Walmart, Target, HyVee and Dollar General in several states.
