7 Green Party candidates to head to November general election after clerical error

The Green Party lineup on the November election ballot, including the candidate for U.S. Senate, will expand following what the Arizona Secretary of State’s Office described on Saturday as a clerical error.

Secretary of State Adrian Fontes’ office announced that an election management system failed to properly distinguish between a new party and an existing party, which affected the way results were recorded for the Green Party.

“Once we verified that there was, in fact, an error, we worked diligently to correct the record for the candidates, voters, and the party,” said Lisa Marra, election director for Fontes’ office.

Seven additional write-in candidates for the Green Party will appear on the November 5 general election ballot, according to the announcement.

The new write-in candidates include Eduardo Quintana for U.S. Senate, Vincent Beck-Jones for U.S. House of Representatives in District 4, and Athena Eastwood for District 6. Tre Rook will run for the Arizona State Legislature in District 8, Cody Hannah in District 13, and Scott Menor in District 14. Additionally, Mike Cease and Nina Luxenberg will join the race for the Arizona State Corporation Commission.

In Dec. 2023, the Green Party met the minimum requirement of signatures to qualify as a new party for federal, state, and legislative races in 2024, according to Fontes’ office in a news release.
