A 17-year-old boy from Cox’s Creek died in a collision on the Bluegrass Parkway in Nelson County Friday evening.
A Kentucky State Police trooper came upon the two-vehicle crash near the 13 mile-marker on Bluegrass Parkway about 5:45 p.m., state police said in a news release Saturday.
State police said their preliminary investigation indicates that the teen was driving a 2016 Ford Fusion westbound on the parkway when he crossed the median and was hit by an eastbound 2016 Cadillac Escalade.
Nelson County Coroner Danielle Chladek identified the victim as Andrew Hayen. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Escalade, Patrick Reed, 41, of Bardstown, as well as two passengers, were taken by helicopter to University of Louisville Hospital. State police said their injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.
Police said they did not know what caused Hayen to cross into the path of the oncoming Escalade.
Part of Bluegrass Parkway was shut down for several hours while state police investigated, according to the news release.
