Kansas City police are investigating a homicide after a 78-year-old man died on Sunday, hours after he was found lying on the concrete suffering from apparent head trauma.
At about 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, Shoal Creek patrol division officers were dispatched to the 4100 block of N. Brighton Avenue in response to an assault. When they arrived, they located the victim, who was identified as 78-year-old Harold Alderson.
A witness at the scene told officers that Alderson and another adult male had been in a verbal argument that turned into a physical altercation. During the fight, the witness said, Alderson fell and struck his head, according to police.
Emergency responders transported Alderson to the hospital in critical condition. At about 3:47 p.m., detectives were notified he had died from his injuries.
Police said a “subject of interest” has been identified and detectives are working to locate him.
Police are asking anyone who knows anything about the case to contact homicide detectives at 816-234-5043 or the TIPS Hotline anonymously at 816-474-TIPS. There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information submitted anonymously to the TIPS hotline.
