Polls have closed and results are in from Newport County’s two contested primary races.
Here are the unofficial results reported by the Rhode Island Board of Elections on Tuesday night.
Newport City Council – Ward One
The lone contested primary among the local races in Newport was for the Ward 1 City Council seat. With the position open after incumbent Angela Lima announced she would not seek reelection, there was a three-person contest for the seat.
The three on the ballot are Ellen Pinnock, who was endorsed by Lima, Charles Pattavina and Hugo DeAscentis. The top two will advance to the General Election in November.
Ellen Pinnock – 224 votes, 55.3%
Hugo DeAscentis – 109 votes, 26.9%
Charles Pattavina – 72 votes, 17.8%
Portsmouth Town Council – Democratic candidates
Portsmouth has partisan elections for its own council, and this year, nine Democrat candidates are vying to be on the general election ballot with the hope of scoring one of the seven council seats. Incumbents Juan Carlos Payero, Charles Levesque and J. Mark Ryan will faced off against Sondra Blank, Tasha MacGibbon, Michael DiPaola, David Fiorillo, Timothy Grissett and Tarah Woods.
Here are the unofficial results.
Sondra Blank – 943 votes, 14.1%
J. Mark Ryan – 926 votes, 13.8%
Tasha MacGibbon – 910 votes, 13.6%
Juan Carlos Payero – 907 votes, 13.6%
Timothy Grissett – 822 votes, 12.3%
Charles Levesque – 767 votes, 11.4%
David Fiorillo – 663 votes, 9.9%
Tarah Woods – 568 votes, 8.5%
Michael DiPaola – 198 votes, 3%
