MANITOWOC – The city of Manitowoc will host an active shooter (or killer) drill on Friday.
The event runs 4:30-7:30 p.m. at Manitowoc City Hall, 900 Quay St., and is open to police and fire personnel from all over Manitowoc County.
The public should be prepared to see a large presence of squad cars, fire trucks and ambulances near City Hall during that time, a news release said.
Quay Street will be closed from South 10th Street, just west of The Fat Seagull restaurant.
South Ninth Street at Franklin Street will be closed, but people will have access to the businesses in the area.
This type of training occurs yearly in Manitowoc County to keep police, fire, EMS and dispatch proficient in active killer response.
Last year, the event was held at Hope Church and was hosted by Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office and the Rockwood Fire Department.
This year’s event is coordinated by retired Manitowoc Fire Department Chief Bill Manis.
The city of Manitowoc, Burger Boat Company and the Wisconsin Maritime Museum gave access to their facilities for the event. Call Manitowoc Police Lt. Robert Arps at 920-686-6592 for information.
