A man has been jailed after police raided his house looking for drugs – but instead found four guns wrapped in bin bags.
Two self-loading pistols, a revolver, a shotgun and ammunition were all recovered at an address in Crumpsall when officers executed a misuse of drugs warrant on April 17 of this year. Victor Sibthorpe, who occupied the property, was not present, but police searching the property found a number of class A and B drugs.
The 25-year-old was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A and B drugs later at an address in Harpurhey. But it was only when police searched Sibthorpe’s garden that they uncovered the firearms.

All of the guns recovered were found to be viable, police say. Sibthorpe was subsequently charged with possession of firearms and remanded into custody. He later pleaded guilty to the charges.
At a hearing at Manchester Crown Court on Friday (September 27), Sibthorpe, of Chudleigh Road, Crumpsall, was sentenced to six years in prison.
Detective Constable Michael Jacobs said: “We have made a commitment to taking firearms off our streets, for each gun that we recover, that’s a potential life saved, or firearms incident prevented.
“We are determined to hold those involved in the use, supply, and conversion of firearms in Greater Manchester to account. Sibthorpe demonstrated a complete and utter lack of accountability for his actions throughout, choosing not to comment during all of his police interviews.
“This sentence sees another criminal behind bars and even more illegal weapons seized as a result of proactive police work.”
