A man hiking a trail in San Diego, California, witnessed the moment a coyote climbed a tree while in pursuit of a bobcat.
Bryce Pierce was walking his two husky dogs on the eastern side of Cowles Mountain Trail when he noticed a bobcat perched up a tree. Pierce saw a coyote follow the bobcat up the tree and quickly realized a pack of coyotes was hunting the feline.
Footage captured by Pierce shows the bobcat and the coyote in a tense stand-off shortly before Pierce’s dogs interrupt the deadlock. The footage ends with the coyote climbing to a lower branch of the tree.
Speaking to Storyful, Pierce said the bobcat held off the coyote with ease. “The bobcat fought back easily. My two husky dogs were making excited noises and that also discouraged the coyote from continuing its pursuit,” he said. Credit: Bryce Pierce via Storyful
