Scholz says new military aid for Kiev a signal to Russia’s Putin

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Friday said his announcement of further military support for Kiev is an important signal to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“Playing for time will not work. We will not let up in our support for Ukraine,” Scholz said at a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Berlin.

The two leaders agree that Russia must participate in a peace conference in order to secure a just and lasting peace for Ukraine, Scholz said.

“It is clear that peace can only be achieved on the basis of international law. This will require enormous efforts,” the chancellor added.

“We will not accept a dictated peace from Russia,” he further emphasized.
