Plane crashes onto highway in Louisville, three taken to hospital

Several people were hospitalized Friday night after a small plane crashed into a vehicle on a Louisville highway.

The Piper PA 28 was approaching a runway at Bowman Field to make a landing when it went down on Breckenridge Lane and hit the vehicle at 6:17 p.m., according to a statement from Darrell Watson, senior vice president for the Louisville Regional Airport Authority.

The two people on board the plane were taken to a local hospital, Watson said.

One person who was in the vehicle that was hit by the plane was also taken to a hospital, Louisville television station WDRB reported.

“The Louisville Regional Airport Authority, which owns and operates Bowman Field, is working with local authorities to support the response of this incident as needed,” Watson wrote.

He said police and fire departments from St. Matthews were the first to respond to the scene.

A representative of the St. Matthews Police Department said the road had reopened late Friday night. He said the injuries sustained by the people involved were not thought to be life threatening.
