The little town constantly named Britain’s cheapest place to live

Just 13 miles outside of the North East, a little town has once again been named the cheapest area to live in the UK.

Shildon, which is just a 25 minute drive outside of Durham, has found to have homes with the average price of £69,950. In England, eight out of 10 of the most affordable areas are in the North East, with six in County Durham, the Express reports.

The quaint little town is in the perfect spot for city commuters, as well as those who are looking to escape the hustle and bustle after work. This is not the first time that Shildon has topped the list of most affordable place to live in the UK. It offers charming countryside, great value for homebuyers and is also well connected with major transport links.

The town has an interesting history, it is home to a Locomotion Museum as the first station in England was built on the Stockton and Darlington Railway.

Hackworth Park is a park in Shildon town centre named after Timothy Hackworth, locomotive engineer. The park contains a drinking fountain created to commemorate one of the engines he designed and also has a statue of him.
