FHP: 18-year-old dies in single vehicle wreck in Jefferson County

An 18-year-old motorist died in Jefferson County early Sunday after his car left the roadway, struck trees and overturned, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.

The driver, who had a Tampa address, was headed south on U.S. 27 near Cherry Tree Road, not far from Waukeenah, around 1:20 a.m.

His sedan went off the road, and went into a grassy shoulder. He ran into a number of trees along the tree line until hitting a large tree and finally overturning, the FHP said.

The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle and later pronounced dead on scene, according to FHP.

The Florida Highway Patrol was assisted by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, the Jefferson County FireDepartment and Jefferson County EMS. The Highway Patrol does not identify crash victims in its news releases.
