BBC Strictly Come Dancing star ‘isn’t without a chance of leaving’ as bad news dealt before live show

There are a number of Strictly Come Dancing stars who could find themselves at risk this weekend as week five of the competition arrives.

More than a month into the BBC One dance contest’s 2024 series and the competition is well and truly hearing up, especially following the first 10s of the series last weekend.

Former Love Island star Tasha Ghouri scored the first 10s of the 2024 series, topping the leaderboard for the third consecutive week. The 26-year-old, who is the show’s second deaf contestant, and professional partner Aljaz Skorjanec’s Charleston was branded “practically perfect” by judge Anton Du Beke.

Another stand-out routine from Strictly’s latest live show included a salsa from EastEnders star Jamie Borthwick and professional partner Michelle Tsiakkas. The duo earned a standing ovation as well as a score of 34 points, their highest of the series so far, with Anton telling the pair it was their “best dance to date”.

Meanwhile, coming in at the bottom of the leaderboard in week four of the competition was Morning Live star Dr Punam Krishan and Gorka Marquez, whose Jive to 2 Be Loved (Am I Ready) by Lizzo scored 20 points.

But the remaining 12 couples will be back in the ballroom this Saturday night (October 19) and Dr Punam who is one of the stars of this year’s Strictly that could be in trouble this weekend, alongside Paul Merson and Wynne Evans.

According to online bookmaker Grosvenor Sport, former footballer Paul, who is taking part with pro dancer Karen Hauer, is the current favourite to leave Strictly Come Dancing, but Wynne’s odds have also been slashed from 20/1 to 4/1, alongside dance partner Katya Jones.

Simon Kew, spokesperson from Grosvenor Sport, explains who’s at risk of being eliminated this weekend: “Paul Merson is tipped to be eliminated this weekend, priced at 10/11. We saw Paul in this position last weekend, but he managed to avoid the bottom two this time around. He’s got his work cut out this weekend as he’s dancing to the Samba. Has he got what it takes to stay in for another week?”

“Second favourite to be eliminated is Dr Punam Krishan, who’s priced at 7/2. She found herself at the bottom of the leaderboard last weekend, with a measly score of 20.

“Paul and Punam are scoring much lower compared to other celebrities who are scoring 10s and getting scores in the 30s. At this stage in the competition, they aren’t progressing as quickly as the others, so it could be the end of the road for one of them. Although Paul is the favourite to leave the competition this weekend, Wynne Evans certainly isn’t without a chance of leaving.”

“He looked a lively outsider a couple of weeks ago in the outright betting, but the news this week hasn’t helped his chances, and he’s been very well-backed to exit on Sunday night. Last week, he was 20/1 to be eliminated, but now he’s 4/1! Shayne Ward, who found himself in the dance-off last weekend, is priced at 10/1.”

“Elsewhere in the market, Pete Wicks and Sam Quek are priced at 12/1, JB Gill and Montell Douglas at 25/1, Jamie Borthwick at 33/1, Sarah Hadland at 100/1, Tasha Ghouri at 150/1, and Chris McCausland at 200/1.”
