4 hospitalized after Saturday night crash near Vermontville

VERMONTVILLE TWP. — Four people suffered “very serious” injuries when their Honda Accord crashed Saturday night west of Vermontville, the Michigan State Police said.

Three of the Accord’s four occupants were ejected from the vehicle, the State Police said. Three people were transported to a hospital by ambulance, and one was transported to a hospital by Life Flight, MSP Sgt. Isaac Mills said in an online post.

The injured include a 17-year-old male from Nashville, a 21-year-old female from Clarksville, a 23-year-old female from Hastings, and a 25-year-old male from Hastings, the post said.

“All persons are being medically evaluated at this time,” the post said.

The crash took place at about 11:26 p.m. Saturday while a Michigan State Police trooper was at the scene of a car-deer crash on Scipio Highway, near West Street.

The Honda was westbound on Scipio Highway at a high rate of speed, the MSP said, and swerved to avoid the trooper’s patrol car, “which was parked along the right shoulder with its emergency lighting activated.”

The Accord lost control, left the road, and overturned multiple times while striking trees and a fence.

The trooper was not injured, and their vehicle was not struck.

“The trooper began emergency medical care/triage on all parties until further life-saving entities arrived,” the post said.

This incident remains under investigation, but police said speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash.

The Michigan State Police are asking if anyone has any additional information to contact the Lansing Post at 517-322-1907.
