The family of Ellie Young has set up a GoFundMe for funeral and memorial expenses. As of Monday morning, over $25,000 of the GoFundMe’s $28,000 goal has been collected.
Young was a medical student at UT Health Science Center in Memphis.
“She was walking sunshine, and the world is now a darker place without her,” said Macey Daniel, the organizer of the GoFundMe.
Young was a member of Chi Omega-Xi Zeta Chapter sorority at the University of Tennessee at Martin. The sorority made a social media post honoring Young’s memory on Monday.
“We are deeply saddened and at a loss of words for the recent passing of our sister, Ellie Young. She was a light in every room she walked in. She was kind, smart, humble, genuine, and a role model to all of us. There will never be another one like her.”

According to the affidavit, Young had recently broken up with Hopper.
Officials say that after fleeing the scene of the crime, he led law enforcement on a multi-county chase.
Tipton County Sheriff Shannon Beasley says the pursuit continued through Covington where Hopper allegedly tried to run over the Tipton County Constable while the Constable attempted to deploy stop sticks.
The Dyer County Sheriff’s Office said that Hopper allegedly attempted to run over a Dyer County sergeant who set up spike strips at the county line.
Deputies performed a PIT maneuver causing Hopper to crash out on Highway 51. Law enforcement said he tried to fight off officers, but he was eventually taken into custody.
When he was arrested, deputies found a handgun in his car.
SCSO said that more charges may be forthcoming as the investigation remains ongoing.
