Oct. 23—A Priceville man involved but not criminally charged in the Sunday shooting death of his ex-wife was arrested by Lawrence County deputies on Tuesday.
Zachery Allen Merriman, 33, was taken into custody at Langley Private Drive — where his ex-wife, Kimberly Shaun Ricks, was found dead from multiple gunshot wounds two days earlier — by Priceville police at 6:15 p.m. and transferred to the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, according to the Priceville Police Department.
Police said Merriman was arrested on six active warrants: second-degree assault, second-degree burglary, first-degree criminal mischief, first-degree theft, menacing and third-degree trespassing.
The charges stem from an attempted Sept. 18 theft of a motorcycle from a residence in Lawrence County and an ensuing altercation, a Sheriff’s Office spokesman said Wednesday.
Merriman and Ricks had three young children and divorced in 2019, according to court records. Prior to Ricks’ death, she attempted to modify the custody agreement. In May, Ricks petitioned Cullman County for a protection from abuse order against Merriman, claiming he had been stalking her. The petition was denied by Circuit Judge Gregory Nicholas.
Merriman has been charged twice with violating a protection order barring him from contacting his current, estranged wife.
Monday afternoon, the Cullman County District Attorney’s Office moved to revoke Merriman’s bond for a first-degree theft charge he faces there.
Court records show Nicholas issued an arrest warrant for Merriman minutes later.
