Oct. 28—JAMESTOWN — Voters will have opportunities to cast their ballots before the Election Day on Nov. 5 when early voting begins Monday, Oct. 28, in Stutsman County.
The polls for early voting are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, Oct. 28-Nov. 1, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at the Stutsman County Courthouse in Jamestown.
Jessica Alonge, Stutsman County auditor/chief operating officer, said Saturday was added for early voting to give voters another opportunity that wasn’t from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
“Sometimes on Election Day, people aren’t able to get there or something might come up so it was just one more way to offer an additional few hours,” she said.
Voters will cast their ballots in Stutsman County from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Nov. 5 at the Jamestown Civic Center and the American Legion in Medina, which is only for voters from precinct 472910.
Stutsman County has sent out 1,271 absentee ballots with 925 returned as of about 1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, Alonge said.
Eligible voters from Stutsman County can get absentee ballots through the end of the day on Monday, Nov. 4, at auditor’s office at the Stutsman County Courthouse. Alonge said voters can request an absentee ballot online.
“Right now for mailing purposes, we are kind of getting to the point where we are getting pretty tight with dates for mailing and having to rely on the mail service,” she said. “So the best way would be to come in, complete the application, get the ballot and hand deliver it just to avoid any issues with the mail.”
Absentee ballots must be postmarked Monday, Nov. 4, or delivered by 5 p.m. on Nov. 4.
Individuals who vote during early voting or on Nov. 5 must provide a valid North Dakota driver’s license or a non-driver’s ID card, a tribal government-issued ID card or a long-term care ID certificate.
To vote in North Dakota, an individual must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old on Nov. 5, a legal resident of the state and a resident in the precinct for 30 days before the election.
Voters can go to
to change their address. Once at the site, click “Update Address for Voting.” A full name, driver’s ID and date of birth as it appears on the driver’s license is required for individuals to change their address.
Individuals voting by absentee ballot must provide a valid North Dakota driver’s license or a non-driver’s ID card, a tribal government-issued ID card, long-term care ID certificate, passport or military ID. Individuals with a disability that prevents them from traveling away from home to obtain an acceptable form of identification may use an attester who must provide his or her name, a North Dakota driver’s license or a non-driver’s ID card, a tribal identification number and sign the absentee ballot application form to attest to the applicant’s North Dakota residency and voting eligibility.
On Election Day, voters will need to use the north ground-level doors with access to the arena through the Exchequer Room at the Jamestown Civic Center. Handicap parking will be available in the north side parking lot adjacent to the Jamestown Civic Center with regular parking in the Business Center parking lot. The street between the Business Center and the Civic Center will be closed to vehicular traffic throughout the day. The west and east doors at the Civic Center will be closed on Election Day.
Offices located on the first floor in the Stutsman County Courthouse will be closed to the public on Tuesday, Nov. 5, for staff to help with the election. All in-person services conducted on the first floor in the courthouse — auditor, treasurer, recorder and tax director — will be suspended on Nov. 5.
Election results are unofficial until the Stutsman County Canvassing Board meets to certify them at 10 a.m. on Nov. 18.
