A Mead man has been arrested in connection with multiple armed robberies in July, including a police-eluding incident that ended in a crash.
Dustin Paul Corrington, 21, is charged two counts of aggravated robbery – menace victim with deadly weapon; two counts of attempted aggravated robbery; two counts of felony menacing with a real or simulated weapon; vehicular eluding; second-degree motor vehicle theft; criminal mischief – under $300; resisting arrest; and obstructing a peace officer.
Corrington is being held in custody in lieu of a $20,000 bond and is set for an arraignment on Nov. 26, according to court records. His booking photo was not immediately available.
On July 6, police saw a passenger hanging out of the window of a white Hyundai reportedly driven by Corrington at 12:07 p.m. near Second Avenue and Main Street, according to an affidavit.
Police noted that “an unsecured passenger hanging out of a vehicle in a heavy traffic area is an immediate hazard,” activated their lights, and tried to stop the car near Fourth Avenue and Main Street. However, the Hyundai driver did a U-turn and went southbound on Main Street at a high rate of speed. Officers later learned that the Hyundai was reported as a stolen vehicle on July 3.
At 4:03 p.m. that day, police responded to a suspected armed robbery at the Inta Juice smoothie shop at 1067 South Hover St., according to the affidavit. A caller reported that two men in a white Hyundai were in the parking lot and had pointed guns at some people there. Police went to the smoothie shop, but the vehicle was gone by the time they arrived.
A caller reported another possible armed robbery at the Stinker Store gas station at 1700 Main St. involving the same vehicle and two men wearing masks. Several officers in the area attempted to find the vehicle, and a police pursuit ensued at 11th Avenue and Bross Street.
After “speeding, driving recklessly and running several stop signs”, the vehicle crashed into the yard of 1021 Sunset St., where Corrington and a juvenile ran from the vehicle, leaving a gun behind in the car, according to the affidavit. Police found Corrington and the juvenile at Loomiller Park at 1700 11th Ave., “trying to blend in” with other people at the park. Both fled when officers approached, but police took them into custody shortly after that, according to the affidavit.
