Richard Osman is one of the celebrity experts on Michael McIntyre’s hit game show on BBC One this evening. The 53-year-old is known for his work as a presenter, novelist and comedian.
His best-selling Thursday Murder Club novels are currently being made into a film for Netflix, starring some huge names. Richard is also the creator and former co-presenter of Pointless.
Hailing from Billericay in Essex, he has previously opened up about how when he was nine years old, his father walked out on the family. He revealed it caused challenges for himself and his mother for the rest of their lives.
āIt was the worst thing that ever happened to me,ā he said. āHe just left and I didnāt see him again for 20 years ā thatās hard.”
He added: āIt derails you and it takes a long time to get back on track. It takes you a lot longer to mature and find yourself.” Richard finally met up with his dad 20 years after he walked out, but admitted he did not feel much of a bond.
When asked whether it broke his heart, he admitted: “Of course. But the heart doesnāt lie. It would be lovely to have that father-son relationship, but there isnāt a connection.
āIf you havenāt seen your dad for 20 years you expect something and I would have loved it if we could have been best buddies.
āIām thankful I have the relationship I now have with my dad. Heās a perfectly nice fella ā I think heās just one of those people who married the wrong person ā but I donāt feel it in my heart. Which is sad,ā he told The Mirror.
He was always extremely close to his mother Brenda and even bought her a luxurious home to enjoy her retirement in on the South Downs of West Sussex.
Richard also has an older brother, Mat, who is the bassist with the hit indie band Suede.
He met future Suede lead singer Brett Anderson in Haywards Heath and they played together in early garage bands including The Pigs and Suave And Elegant.
Also a writer, Mat’s first novel, The Ruins, was published in February 2020 and he has written two more since.
Richard has two children from his first marriage, which ended in divorce, and in December 2022 he married British actress Ingrid Oliver, whom he met when she was a contestant on Richard Osman’s House Of Games.
As of 2021, he was living in Chiswick, West London.
