DeSpain concedes congressional race to Hoyle

One week after the Associated Press called the race, Republican nominee Monique DeSpain conceded the election to represent southwest Oregon in Congress.

In her Nov. 14 concession, DeSpain thanked her supporters, voiced pride in her campaign, noted the spending gap between her and incumbent Rep. Val Hoyle, called on non-voters to participate in the future and vowed to continue to advocate.

“This election is not the end, but just the beginning of holding Val Hoyle accountable for delivering bipartisan results she has promised,” DeSpain said in her statement. “I challenge her to actually vote to secure our border, to stop fentanyl from entering Oregon and killing our people, to prevent wildfires rather than fund fires (and) to end, not just fund, homelessness.”

Oregon’s congressional delegation got more Democratic this election, with Hoyle and U.S. Rep. Andrea Salinas winning re-election and Janelle Bynum (D) unseating incumbent Lori Chavez-DeRemer (R) in Oregon’s 5th District per an AP call Tuesday morning. But national politics moved in the opposite direction, with AP calling a House majority for Republicans Monday night.

As of midday, Nov. 14 election returns showed:

  • Val Hoyle (D)*: 190,429, 51.7%

  • Monique DeSpain (R): 162,803, 44.2%

  • Justin Filip (PN): 9,803, 2.7%

  • Dan Bahlen (LB): 5,447, 1.5%
