TV personality Gino D’Acampo has revealed the reason why a heartbreaking event in his family encouraged him to make one big change to the way he lives his life.
Speaking to Kate Thornton on her White Wine Question Time podcast, the celebrity chef said that following the death of his parents over 10 years ago, he has decided to stop doing one thing.
After the host asked him about some of the things he would simply refuse to do, Gino said: “I will not budge on working on my holidays. From the 15th June until the 15th September, I do not care who you are, how much money you have got, how big the show is, I do not care. And, I’ve said no to the biggest show that you can think of, nationally and internationally.”
But, as Kate delved further into his passionate insistence not to work whilst enjoying time on holiday, he revealed the saddening reason why: “I lost my parents when they were very young, both of them in their 60s, so I didn’t have a mum and dad when I was about 35 or 36-years-old,” reports the Express.

He added: “What happened at that point Kate, I started to think, could life be shorter than what I think or what we believe? I really started to believe that life is not as long as we think, and that was the moment that I thought, okay, I have the money, I made a few money in the bank, so I don’t have to worry about it. Now what is it that I want to do with my life?
“Do I want to bank more money or do I want to bank more memories?”
Having made countless TV appearances in recent years, the celebrity chef is rumoured to have another series in the works, this time with his close friend and tv chef, Fred Sirieix as they jet off around Europe in a bid to try and eat a more sustainable diet.
Born in Torre Del Greco in Italy, Gino decided to move to the UK in 1995 when he was just 19-years-old to work in restaurants in London and Surrey. Since then, he has gone on to produce a wide array of cookery books and feature in a number of tv shows.
