DWP Cold Weather Payment postcode checker – find out if you are owed £25

Some households could be in line for a £25 one-off payment to help with energy costs as the UK experiences its first major cold snap of the season.

Temperatures have plummeted in recent days with some areas getting blanketed with snow. There is more cold weather on the way as the Met Office has warned of further snow as Storm Bert approaches the UK this weekend.

Each year, between November and March, the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) runs the Cold Weather Payment scheme to help people on certain benefits with heating costs. Every time the temperature drops below 0C for seven consecutive days, people in affected postcode areas will receive a one-off £25 payment in their bank account.

To be eligible for the payments, you need to be claiming a qualifying benefit such as Pension Credit, Income Support or Universal Credit.

The first Cold Weather Payments of the season have now been triggered after areas in the north of England saw temperatures drop in recent days. The payments are triggered if temperatures are either recorded or forecast to be 0C or below. A total of 18 postcode areas are due payments for the period November 17 to November 24, according to the DWP.

To check if your postcode is one of them, you can use the DWP’s postcode checker on the gov.uk website here. You can also search our full list of all the postcode areas due a payment below.

Most of the eligible postcode areas are within Cumbria. Payments are also due in areas of Northumbria. Postcodes in Scotland are not part of the Cold Weather Payment scheme, however some areas of the Scottish Borders which are in England despite having a Scottish postcode are eligible for payments.
